Okay, my favorite site for stock images is Devi antart.com.
When looking for stock images, it's usually easy to find them. They had specific things that acknowledge the fact that they are. Some have it in the title, some have it in the artist comments.

Is not stock. You can tell because it doesn't say "You may use this", in the comments, or there is nothing in the title giving it away that it is a stock image.

Is a stock image. You know this because:
"Just let me know if you use it.
Download for full-size.
Don't forget to credit me if you use it. "
Her artist comment asks you to let her know if you use it. Also to credit her. This is an image you /can/ use. :3
When crediting, you always have to say the name of the person who took the image, or made it, and than where you got it.
So if you're crediting for the stock image above you would put:
Beach (c) divalynn @ DA
or
Beach (c) divalynn.devi antart.com
Or there are tons of ways you can.
As long as their name is on the image or in the artist comments you're good to go! If you plan on selling it on The crap of a site we go on and uploading it on to devi antart, than make sure the credits are on the image, because someone else might buy it on dA and they could get in trouble for using it, without the credit of the photographer.
NOTE: you guys have I.an's name censors.. and when you post devi antart.com it comes up as this: deviantart.com
